Market wrap: VN-Index edges up 0.7% to close week

On Friday, the VN-Index edged up by 8.03 points (+0.7%) to close the week at 1,102.2. A varied assortment of high-cap stocks drove the session's momentum, with a nearly balanced ratio between gainers (254) and decliners (227). Total trading volume decreased to USD501.9mn.  

* No large-cap banks declined in the session. VCB (+0.4%), BID (+1.4%), VPB (+1.1%), and TCB (+0.9%) gained. CTG (0.0%), MBB (0.0%), ACB (0.0%), and STB (0.0%) were unchanged.  

* In real estate, VHM (-0.9%) fell after trending up for five consecutive sessions, while parent company VIC (+0.8%) slightly increased.  

* In the food & beverage sector, VNM (+1.5%) nearly recovered its losses from yesterday while MSN (+1.7%) also surged. SAB (0.0%) was unchanged.  

* Other significant gainers were GAS (+1.6%), steel maker HPG (+1.3%), and technology firm FPT (+0.5%).
