Market wrap: VN-Index advances 0.5%

The VN-Index advanced 0.5% (+5.9 pts) on Friday to close the trading week at 1,229.3. After declining on Monday and Tuesday, the index rebounded the next three days for a week net gain of 1%. Across the index, there were 256 gainers, 220 laggards, and 91 unchanged stocks. Total trading volume increased from the previous trading day to USD783.5mn.

* The banking sector put strong negative pressure on the index, as VCB (-1.2%), BID (-1.3%), ACB (-1.0%), LPB (-2.1%), and STB (-2.6%) dropped. TCB (+0.8%) and MBB (+1.3%) gained.  

* In real estate, VIC (+6.9%) jumped, while VHM (+1.8%), BCM (+0.5%), and KDH (+0.4%) posted gains. NVL (-4.0%) plunged.  

* Strong gainers from other sectors included milk producer VNM (+3.6%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+3.5%), utility companies GAS (+1.7%) and REE (+2.2%), oil & gas companies BSR (+2.2%) and PLX (+1.8%), and airline VJC (+6.2%).  

* Notable laggards included airline HVN (-1.6%), securities company SSI (-0.9%), and retailers PNJ (-1.3%) and FRT (-3.0%).
