Our view: After last Friday’s strong reversal on healthy volumes, we expected the markets to extend those gains to open the week. Of course much to our dismay and investors, the indices fell hard as sentiment again turn negative. Stocks, banking stocks in particular have seen sharp slides in their stock price which have prompted cuts in margin lending ratios and margin calls by brokers that have dragged the broader market down. However, we think the worse of the technical selling is over (margin calls, T+4 sell-off, etc.) and that there’s plenty of upside as the market stabilises.
