Vietnam’s 29 unlisted banks are a mystery. Most of them have murky shareholder structures and unclear relationships with other companies. The common perception is that many unlisted banks are nothing more than lending vehicles for their owners. Unfortunately, poor disclosure prevents us from answering many such questions. Nonetheless, in this report we try to shed some light about what is going on at these banks, looking at their background, shareholders and recent financial numbers.
