Vietnam Overview
Vietnam is the 13th largest population in the world, the fastest growing economy in Asia and the first country in terms of FDI. Vietnam’s growth is attributable to several factors including a very open economy for trade and investment, solid infrastructure, reforms to improve economic efficiencies, and a hard working population. For 2015, Vietnam’s GDP growth is looking to reach 6.5% (ADB’s latest forecast) and many economists believe growth will accelerate in 2016 as inflation remains below 1% and the currency is the most stable in the region. In addition, according to the Peterson Institute for International Economics, a US think tank, Vietnam is expected to be the biggest winner from the recently agreed TPP framework, especially in terms of income and export volumes. Due to the above reasons, Vietnam has become a very attractive market in terms of overseas expansion, M&A activity, and investment.
